Do you want to know my honest opinion about Brad Pitt’s Formula One movie? Didn’t do it for me. Don’t get me wrong, it was nice to watch Brad Pitt do Brad Pitt things, but do you know who the filmmakers had in mind when they were shooting that movie? Men. They were only thinking about men. Evident in the fact that there was about zero romance to it all. Where was the passionate kiss? Where was the rain? Where was the moment he chose her over driving? Chose anyone over driving? And why was there absolutely no yearning?
The audience of Formula One has grown by 63% in the past eight years (post Netflix’s initial release of Drive to Survive). Every year, three out of four new fans identify as women. Women now account for 42% of the total global fan base. A fan base that is also strikingly young -- with 43% of fans being under the age of thirty-five. So, I’ll ask you again... where was the yearning?
Well, that absence is precisely why I wrote JUST DRIVE.
